In this Amsterdam apartment, we finished the entire interior with a focus on razor-sharp color transitions that run all around the ceiling, walls and skirting boards. The result is a graphic, calm base where lines and surfaces support the design—exactly the “coolest” element of this project.
Together with the client, we opted for a sophisticated color palette with contrasting but harmonious tones. The challenge: let seamless transitions “run around” from ceiling to wall and across the skirting boards without frayed cut lines. We have worked with lasers, measuring seams and multiple masking phases, so that each line is consistent from room to room.
A sleek finish starts with a perfect base. We made a plan per room and divided the 325 m² of ceiling and wall surfaces into logical phases for drying and colouring. Daily supply and removal within a radius of 50 km (5 days) kept the work pace high and the apartment was habitable.
All walls and ceilings are first primed to equalize suction and then finished in several layers for a deeply matt, smooth appearance. We “cut” the edges and color changes with controlled wet-on-wet techniques and controlled tape pulling, so that the lines remain clean without raised edges.
In the living room, we opted for a Level 5 ceiling finish: a mirror-smooth base without blemishes, ideal for (ironing) light. This premium level of stucco and finish lifts the room visually to a higher level and enhances the effect of the sleek color frames along the walls.
The skirting boards (6 m², approx. 60 m length x 10 cm height) have been fully sanded, primed and varnished. Because the color change continues across the skirting boards, we double-taped each section and only opened the final cut line in the final phase. This way, the skirting board, wall and ceiling fit together flawlessly.
We moved five wall sockets to reinforce the interplay of lines and the furniture setup. In addition, the grounding of 17 electrical points has been installed/checked for safety and compliance. A new surface-mounted spotlight has been moved/installed to better illuminate accents in the living space.
The bathroom tiles are deeply steam-cleaned (4 hours) for a fresh base without chemical residues. In the bathroom and toilet, we replaced 47 meters of sealant, with sleek, waterproof joints in a shade that matches the new color palette.
Throughout the apartment, we have carried out various minor repairs (4 hours), such as repairing hairline cracks, adjusting details and smoothing out minor imperfections so that the paintwork comes into its own.
