Design & planning

For this project, the focus was on a serene interior with warm accents, practical lighting, and a seamless floor finish. The home needed to feel lighter without losing its cozy character. We therefore opted for a combination of soft wall colors, a light epoxy floor, wooden details, and indirect lighting.

Work began with preparation, transport, and waste removal. Containers were placed and hauled away, including securing the necessary permits for placement on the sidewalk in Amsterdam Centrum & Zuid. This allowed for the phased and organized removal of the old flooring, bathroom fixtures, tiles, and other construction debris.

The layout also received attention. At the entrance, an existing non-load-bearing wall of 9 m² was demolished to create a more open transition to the living area. The damaged areas around this opening were then refinished with Level 5 plasterwork to ensure a clean and seamless connection between the spaces.

Flooring

  • Demolition: The existing tile and glued-down flooring were removed in the bedrooms, living room, dining room, and entryway.
  • Preparation: The subfloor was prepared for a new epoxy floor covering a total area of 54 m².
  • Leveling: Where necessary, the floor was leveled with a 1–10 mm leveling compound to ensure the new finish could be applied smoothly and evenly.
  • New finish: The light-colored epoxy floor provides a calm, seamless foundation for the apartment. In the living room with skylights and in the open-plan kitchen/dining area, the floor helps to better diffuse the daylight.
  • Visual connection: By using the same flooring throughout multiple rooms, the bedrooms, living room, dining room, and entrance are visually more cohesive.
  • Practical use: The epoxy finish is easy to keep clean and pairs well with the warm wooden furniture, plants, soft curtains, and decorative lighting in the interior.

Bathroom & toilet

  • Demolition: The old sanitary fixtures were dismantled and the existing wall and floor tiles were completely removed.
  • Waterproofing: The floor and walls were waterproofed over 25 m² as a foundation for a durable bathroom finish.
  • Floor tiling: 5.5 m² of new floor tiling was installed.
  • Wall tiling: The walls were fitted with 19.5 m² of new tiles, featuring a calm gray base in the shower area and warm accent tiles around the toilet area.
  • Shower area: The bathroom was finished with a walk-in shower and a glass shower panel, keeping the space feeling open and bright.
  • Custom details: A custom structure with a built-in niche was created above the toilet. An integrated niche was also provided in the shower for a practical and uncluttered storage solution.
  • Sanitary fixtures: The space was furnished with a wooden vanity unit, a round mirror, a wall-hung toilet, and modern sanitary fittings.
  • Final result: The combination of light-colored tiles, warm accents, and built-in details makes the bathroom feel compact, yet comfortable and well-thought-out.

Walls & ceilings

  • Plasterwork: Damaged walls in the entryway were refinished after demolition with 2 m² of Level 5 plasterwork.
  • Bathroom finish: In the bathroom, an additional 16 m² of Level 5 plasterwork was applied to the walls and ceilings.
  • Finishing of conduit channels: Surfaces that were channeled for lighting and wiring for the skylight blinds were refinished to a smooth surface over 10 m².
  • Ceiling finish: In the living room, dining room/kitchen, and master bedroom, the ceiling was prepared and finished over 54.5 m².
  • Wall finish: The interior walls in the bedrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen, and entryway were primed and painted over 156 m².
  • Ceiling painting: The ceilings in the bathroom, living area, and master bedroom were given a matte white finish, making the spaces feel brighter and more serene.

Wallpaper & wood panels

  • Accent wall: In one of the rooms, 13.5 m² of wall was prepared and finished with Arte Focus Symbol 26533 wallpaper. This adds texture and character without disrupting the apartment's calm foundation.
  • Wood panels: WoodUpp Akupanel wood panels were installed in the bedroom/work zone. The vertical panels bring warmth and depth to the space.
  • Functional detail: Combined with the light flooring, curtains, and decorative lighting, this creates a tranquil room that can function as both a bedroom and a home office.

Electrics & lighting

  • Lighting plan: The lighting was designed using a combination of indirect LED lighting, recessed spotlights, and decorative fixtures.
  • Cove lighting: 26 meters of cove lighting were installed for LED strips and spotlights. This indirect lighting gives the living area a warm, soft glow.
  • LED strips: The project included an RGBW LED strip set, integrated into the cove construction for ambient lighting in the main living areas.
  • Recessed spotlights: 15 dimmable Philips GU10 DimTone bulbs were installed in Lucide TUBE recessed fixtures.
  • Wet areas: Water-resistant round recessed spotlights were used in the wet and functional zones.
  • Visual effect: The combination of skylights, indirect LED lines, and spotlights ensures a bright, warm, and flexible lighting scheme both day and night.

Doors, windows & styling

  • Interior doors: Five existing interior door panels were removed and reinstalled: two closet doors, two bedroom doors, and one bathroom door.
  • Security: The existing door locks were replaced with SKG*** certified profile cylinders. Localized repairs were also carried out on the doors.
  • Skylight blinds: Four custom pleated blinds were installed for the skylights, tailored to their specific dimensions.
  • Curtains: Curtains with extendable silver-colored curtain tracks were installed in the bedrooms.
  • Kitchen blind: Custom window coverings were installed in the kitchen, featuring a top-down/bottom-up function for better control over light and privacy.
  • Finishing details: The combination of window coverings, door work, and minor repairs makes the apartment feel not only finished but also practical and comfortable for daily use.

Curtains, window coverings & finishing details

Curtains were installed in the bedrooms, and a custom blind was fitted in the kitchen. The skylights were also equipped with matching pleated blinds, allowing for better control over light and privacy. These window coverings complement the calm base of the interior and make the rooms more comfortable for daily use.

In addition to the visible finishes, smaller technical details were also addressed. Existing door locks were replaced with SKG*** certified locks, and the door was repaired in specific areas. Furthermore, five existing interior door panels were removed and reinstalled: two closet doors, two bedroom doors, and one bathroom door.

Extra attention was also given to the floor and wall connections. Old silicone sealant edges in the floor corners were removed, joints were neatly finished, and additional painting and repair work was carried out. While these details are less prominent in the final look, they significantly determine how polished and complete the renovation feels.

Result

The apartment has gained a lighter, warmer, and more cohesive appearance. The new epoxy floor connects the main living areas, while the wall finishes, wooden panels, curtains, and lighting provide comfort and character.

The bathroom was technically and visually renewed with waterproofing, new tiling, built-in niches, new sanitary ware, and a calm combination of materials. In the living areas, skylights, indirect lighting, and light flooring create an open and bright feel.

Thanks to the combination of practical improvements and decorative finishes, the apartment feels not only renovated but also immediately livable and personal. Bricknest delivered a home where technology, comfort, and interior details come together in a balanced way.
