Apartment in Amsterdam: complete renovation with new kitchen, toilet and bathroom

In this Amsterdam apartment, we carried out a total renovation with a new IKEA kitchen, a fully refreshed toilet and bathroom, and sleek stucco and painting throughout the house. We improved comfort and technology with new radiators, ventilation, electricity and gap sealing—and gave the spaces a light, timeless basis.

Design & planning

We started with an interior design package (mood board, 3D visuals, floor plans/views and measurements). Based on this, we planned demolition, structural work and dismantling in phases. For a safe, clean construction site, we installed a 20 m³ container and arranged the debris removal.

Kitchen

  • Dismantling the existing kitchen; 2-phase Perilex installed.
  • Pipes: water supply (2x) and move the drain according to a new plan.
  • Electricity: 5 single and 3 double WCDs newly installed; extractor hood with external outlet prepared.
  • Insulation: 4.5 m² installed behind the future radiator (thermal bridge limitation).
  • Floors: existing floor removed, flattened (12 m²) and new floor tiles (12 m²) in the kitchen/laundry room.
  • Kitchen installation: IKEA Metod with quartz composite worktop, complete with AEG appliances.

Toilet (complete renovation)

  • Demolition: old sanitary facilities and tiles removed.
  • Waterproof: 10 m² floor and walls sealed.
  • Tiling: floor 1 m²; walls 5.0—5.7 m² up to ½ height (±1.5 m).
  • Ceiling: stucco, primer and paint (1 m²).
  • Sanitary: wall-hung toilet (wall drain), corner fountain with faucet and mirror, accessories (roll holder, brush, towel hook).
  • Ventilation & light: active fan with manual control and new lamp/switch.

Bathroom (upgrade)

  • Ventilation: compact built-in fan with timer linked to lighting.
  • Sanitary: rain shower + hand shower; new 100 cm washbasin with faucet and mirror; old set removed.
  • Finishing: ceiling primed and painted (3 m²); old toothbrush holders removed and holes filled; joints renewed and silicone replaced in the shower.

Walls & ceilings

  • Walls: 102 m² stucco, then primer + paint 169 m².
  • Ceilings: stucco 57 m², primer + paint 57 m².
  • Dry construction: 10 m² of drywall to remove pipes and close the skylights above doors for more peace and privacy.

Floors & skirting boards

  • Parquet (living room, bedrooms, hall): leveling/repairing, sanding & oiling in a light finish (50 m²).
  • New 70 m² skirting boards throughout the apartment.
  • Laminate patch: 1 m² applied after removing an old cove.

Doors, windows & painting

  • Doors: 5 interior doors replaced (frames retained and painted over); rails + sliding door between hall and living room added.
  • Painting: frames (5 pieces), meter cupboard door and 2 kitchen doors to the balcony finished in the same color scheme.
  • Windows: woodwork painted around windows; window sills in living rooms and bedrooms renewed; sealant joints checked/repaired in all areas.

Electricity & lighting

  • Switchgear: replace all frames (10 switches, 16 WCD covers).
  • Lighting: hall luminaire moved to the center; light switches in bedroom 1 and laundry room moved.
  • Inspections: electrical and central heating systems checked for safety and balance.

Heating

Replace radiators in the kitchen, living room and 2 bedrooms; pipes are hidden invisibly as much as possible.

Other repair work

Wooden wallcovering removed in the bedroom; fire/hole neatly repaired and sealed.

One fresh and coherent apartment with an efficient kitchen, ventilated wet areas and sleek walls and ceilings throughout the house. New radiators, improved electricity/ventilation and high-quality finish ensure daily comfort, less maintenance and a timeless look.
